Point of Light โ€‹

Point of Light
PRO 40 memory Color & Light works on targets

Turn a prim into a light source: lamps, headlights, candles and ambient light.

Makes a prim emit light, like the Light checkbox in the build tool's Features tab. Lamps, headlights, candles, ambient mood lighting, all switchable from a HUD.

Notes โ€‹

  • Second Life renders a limited number of local lights per scene (viewers typically show the 6โ€“8 nearest). Fewer, stronger lights look better than many weak ones.
  • The FOV/Focus/Ambiance fields configure the prim as a projector (spotlight). Projectors need a texture set in the build tool's light settings to show a shaped beam; without one they behave like a cone light.
  • Light does not cast shadows unless the viewer has shadows enabled.

Example: a lamp with a switch โ€‹

See Light Switch for a single-button ON/OFF lamp using a variable.
